1. Tell us about who your character is and what someone’s first impression would be upon meeting them. How would your character act once someone got to know them?

Fai is a kind, friendly person who exudes a lot of warmth and caring. When first setting out on his journey, most of this was part of a facade to hide his dark past and troubles that he was running from. It didn't fool everyone, and eventually his mask was torn away by the events of their journey to leave behind the real Fai underneath. While this wasn't entirely a fake persona he wore, it was - at times - exaggerated to keep people from getting close to him. These days his smiles and gentle nature are far more genuine than they were before, along with his silliness from time-to-time. He enjoys having a good time and to see other people smiling and being happy - it's what makes him feel the same way to know that he could help bring that mood about. Gone are the days where he smiles to hide what lurks underneath, though he will put on a polite smile and wave when he feels something is off with someone.

Yet he's no longer afraid to let people get close to him, to let himself show his worry and concern over them. Fai may try to keep the children from worrying too much, but for the most part, they know what he's been through and seen the darkest part of him. His carefully placed walls were broken down to let the real Fai shine through even when he's unhappy, concerned, and upset. For the most part, Kurogane gets to see the brunt of it - being the two adults or "parents" as Fai sees them as. This is often done in private away from the children as he allows the ninja to be a source of strength for him and to try to take as much weight as he can from Syaoran and Sakura's shoulders. He knows they can't do everything for them, but he can at least be a pillar of support when they need it.

While Fai's past is an open book to his family, it's still something that he intends to keep to himself. The whole tragedy isn't an event he'd easily share with anyone he doesn't grow close enough to. It makes him a bit of a mystery upon meeting him, and requires a great deal to unlock his terrible backstory. He likely won't even tell people that he had a twin brother unless otherwise prompted or he feels close enough to them to tell them that his brother died when they were children.

2. What is something unique and interesting about them, or what is a fun little tidbit that sets them apart from the crowd?

Fai could not use chopsticks at the beginning of the journey, nor could he read most of the Japanese-like languages. At one point, he's encouraged to just stab the food with his chopsticks which he does happily because it annoys Kurogane. While he has learned how to use them a bit better, he's not the skilled expert the others are and he may resort to stabbing slippery items.

He's a really good cook and baker, even being able to teach Sakura while she has very few memories still. Fai tends to be the one to cook their meals for them, even though he hates and can't handle sour food - he still makes it for the others who do like it. Often when they have a nice world to settle down in for a while, he either takes on the role of a cafe owner to help gather information or at least cooks for their little family. Adjusting quite well to the different foods offered no matter what world they're on.

While pretending he couldn't use magic at the start of the journey, he learned a different kind of magic by using sound in the form of a whistle. He'd practice it - bonus that it annoyed Kurogane - until he learned it and then put it to use in one of the worlds when it was most needed.

3. What does your character think their flaws are? What do they think their strengths are? What are their actual flaws and strengths?

Due to having a long lifespan and the tragic events of his past, Fai may be a bit reckless with his own life at times. His curiosity can sometimes get the better of him and he places himself in unnecessary danger just to satisfy it. While it used to be much worse before the big reveal of his history, it still rears its head every so often. Fai is well aware of this flaw, as he literally has to use up a favor with Kurogane to place himself in a situation where they both absolutely know he'll get hurt. He still tries to wave these injuries off like they're no big deal despite the worry his family expresses over him. If Fai believes that placing himself in harm's way will protect the family he's found, then he will do so without hesitation. Good thing Kurogane is there to keep him from being a complete idiot and reign him in when he does go too far. Still, he's come a long way from the days when he really didn't care about his own life.

Fai's strength is his caring nature, despite all attempts to remain distant when starting the journey - he still started to care about these people. He became what was needed to Syaoran and Sakura as they grew along their journey, something of a parental figure and he even starts to view himself as a warm, loving mother figure. While there was a time he tried to pull away entirely, Fai still tried to remain close to Sakura - as they were both trying to separate themselves from the rest of the group. Only after his past was revealed did Fai allow himself to actually grow closer with other, as there was nothing left to hide from them and they accepted everything about him... along with clearing up a whole lot of guilt he was carrying around as there were certain truths revealed to them that they helped him see. This allowed him to have healthy growth and reestablish the connections he'd started before, but this time without the restraints of his past holding him back. It means he can be the kind, caring person that he is in its most genuine form. This allows him to develop true relationships and accept the others as his found family that genuinely care for him too.

These are both what he thinks are his flaws and strengths as well as being what they truly are, as Fai is very much self-aware. He has few misconceptions of himself and knows how to put them into practice. It also means that he knows that he and Kurogane are well-matched in that, balancing each other out as needed.

4. What is a common misconception other characters have about your character?

Just because Fai wears a smile, acts friendly and polite does not mean he will not get mean if someone messes with his family. Often times his upbeat cheerful nature hides that this fierce protective side of him. There is nothing he wouldn't do for his found family, even if it means walking through the most horrible places imaginable or watching Syaoran interact with a "person" with a horrible visage even he cringes at seeing. Fai is not above getting his hands dirty if it would protect his family, because they are the one place that accepted him. To him, there is no "homeworld" anymore since everyone there is dead now and these people - where ever they may be are now his home.

People should not be fooled by his happy-go-lucky and ridiculous behavior either, as Fai is sharp as a knife when it comes to noticing things around him. He can wear a smile and still be wary of the situation around him, or look at others with a critical eye until he determines whether they're a threat or not. Even when drinking, he remains mostly aware of what is happening around him and can comment on it the next day after he's sobered up. This man has lived long enough to know how to observe without being really noticed by others - though he may come up against others who are also sharp-eyed and catch him people watching. Sometimes being seen as silly and ridiculous is a way to get information, as people will let their own guard down and open up to him.

Character Abilities:

Fai is a powerful mage with a wide array of spells and range with it. The fact is, the more he uses his magic, the stronger he gets. He can do everything from sensing magic and how to break it, to traveling worlds - though this takes so much power that he needs assistance from Mokona and cannot do it frequently (it'll be nerfed entirely in Iya). Fai can use it to attack enemies or create barriers so long as a stronger magic isn't at play keeping him from using it. He's demonstrated he can let others see through his eyes and tear down illusions someone might be seeing - not always with success. There aren't any spell names for this that he says, but the spell is written out in the air using magic before casting. His magic is what has also given him an extended life, allowing him to live hundreds of years before he'll grow old. There are things he can't do, such as: freeze or change time, bring the dead back to life, and healing so no worries on nerfing that.

He is also a vampire due to the events in the series, this mainly means his lifespan is honestly about the same and he has regenerative abilities when it comes to personal injuries. Fai does need blood to sustain him, but only Kurogane's works for him - without it, he dies. Because of the way Kurogane is his food source, the human's own lifespan is now longer so as to be with Fai because these authors love their soulmate troupe. As a weapon, his nails grow longer and he's got enhanced speed and strength.
